Public Relations
Requirements for membership in the Public Relations Peer Group
Please note that requirements (as outlined below) must be met within the four (4) years preceding one's application for membership or membership review; also, such requirements apply in each instance to the production and/or distribution of nationally exhibited audio visual works. All episodes should be a minimum of thirty (30) minutes in length unless defined otherwise specifically for short form programming. Credits from self-published programs alone do not qualify for membership in the Television Academy.
Active Status:
Employment for a minimum of two (2) years within the last four (4) years as communications and media relations function at the equivalent of the publicist level or above at a content production company, distribution company, or platform (or at an agency working on such a client's behalf) devising and executing campaign strategy and pitching substantial earned media coverage to publicize nationally exhibited Emmy eligible content, as opposed to individual performances.
Or a qualified body of work relevant to the peer group that warrants a waiver of the above requirements. Body of Work designation has all benefits of Active membership with the exception of running for Peer Group Governor.
Some areas of work that do not meet the criteria for this peer group include:
- Talent relations
- Awards strategy
- Event production & red-carpet logistics
- Social media management
- Personal publicists – eligible to join the Professional Representatives Peer Group
- Marketing professionals - eligible to join the Television Executives Peer Group
Associate Status:
Extended to persons who meet all of the above requirements or those whose primary function is in awards PR or photo publicity with a minimum one (1) year of experience within the past four (4) years.
